If you are visiting Central Java you just have to visit Borobudur, the largest buddah temple of the world. It was build around year 800, some 300 years before Angkor Wat. Take your time and look at the stories along the walls of this temple that is 70 x 70 meters
Look at the buddah figures inside the "clock" and enjoy the view over the landscape. and you should be able to see the recliming Buddah in the mountains, one of three places in the world. Borobudur is an impressive building - 1400 years old   The view from the top of the temple is great  Buddahs sitting along the side  The other one in the "open air"  Another facinating figure Detail from one of the many stories told along the walls    These masterpieces of individual artistic value have been acknowledged as the most complete and splendid collection of Buddhist reliefs in the world. Built out of millions of blocks of the local volcanic rock joined without the use of mortar, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the primary tourist attraction in Java. |
