second draft the yellow light of candle flashed with a quiet
voice, familiar and soft as always. “big sister, I’ll ...” the last sentence
was broken as the candle fell into the deep ocean, disappeared in the deep,
wide sea. The soft voice turned into a sharp noise, and suddenly, wet, heavy
air came around. I opened my eyes as fast as i can, it was a
horrible nightmare, i thought. Then when i got up slowly from the bed,
something bumped into my sight. it was a small board lying on the wet floor,
the sketch inside shows a little girl laughing and playing around in the grass,
and there was her name, Caroline, my little sister. I fall off the bed, half
struggling and crept to the portrait. Then with a scrannel sound, the frame of
portrait fell apart on the ground. My name is Jenna.
An
geographic investigate officer from 1850 upper Canada, my job is to investigate
many kinds of data about geographical information, then make connections with
the historical events of Canada. At last, I will report them on the newspaper
or record them on the books. It’s a brand new morning. the
plants were waving to me in the wind, dews shining under the sunlight, and bird
chattering or flying around outside. I got my muddy clothes off in a hurry,
then put on my skirt that’s been wear for nearly two days. At last, I took my
note book and sneaked out quietly away from the deserted house by windows. After travel to many places in north America, my note
book is full of writings, they are usually are the description of physical geography, climate
and population of the British colonies, and of course, the most important
new government, the united province of Canada, which were expected
to be the responsible government belonged to the British parliament, were built
in the year of 1841. after the discussion and communication of the
officials, the consensus had been reached by people, the Act of Union 1840, passed
July 23, 1840, by the British Parliament and it was proclaimed by the Crown on February 10, 1841. I don’t do my job only using books, but also my
friends’ dictations. I’ve visited lots of places, close to my neighbours’
sanctum, far to the big farms, where produces important products
like potatoes, rye, buckwheat, maple sugar, and livestock. Also, it took me months to travel from upper
Canada to destination in lower Canada. Since the united
province of Canada was formed by Lower Canada(Canada east)and upper Canada
related together, we shall talk about the two “Canada”. The lower Canada, which
consisted of the southern portion of the modern-day Canadian Province of Quebec. Formerly a British colony called the Province of Lower Canada, based on Lord Durham's report it was merged with the Province of Upper Canada (present-day southern portion of the Province of Ontario) to create the United Province of
Canada. Upper Canada(Canada west) was well known as today’s Ontario, upper
Canada is located in southern-east in Canada, which formed the southern east
part of province of Ontario. Only 20% of Canada East's residents lived in the
city, the rest were all farmers or habitants as they called themselves. They made their own stone houses and wooden
furniture. Their clothes were homemade and their food was grown on the
farms. I flipped the
previous pages that records the information I wrote down to the right side of
the note book, then took out a white quill-pen and tiny jarful of ink. Sitting
on a piece of wood behind the house, which was once a part of this house. I
looked at the blue sky with a smile on my face, then wrote down my conclusion
of the investigation report. The climates of two places are different. Upper Canada is a place
that’s with cooler summers and colder winters than most of Southern Ontario. Although proximity to Lake
Ontario has a moderating effect on the climate, it also tempers the heat and
can on occasion increase precipitation, especially during heavy snowfall
events. Mild to strong breezes off of Lake Ontario make upper Canada one of the
most consistently windy places in British north America, especially near the
water. The main
climatic influences are from western and northern Canada and move eastward, and
from the southern and central United States that move northward. Lower Canada’s
with most areas receiving more than
1,000 millimetres (39 in) of precipitation, including over 300 centimetres
(120 in) of snow in many areas. The St. Lawrence River was full of ice for half the year. For that half
of the year goods had to be transported on American railways. A railway through
Canada East to Halifax would provide an all-British route for trade and
defence. With the quill-pen in my hand dancing around and leaving lines of
black traces on the yellowish paper, a rustle sound came into my ears and haunt
over them. It stopped suddenly when I finished my last word of my report. With
sunlight, you can see the fine handwriting curling and stretching. The
characters were all full of life, like black cats jumping from left side to the
right side of the paper. After
recording, I decided to ask the people live nearby to get some new details.
I’ll always remember what did my boss said, as much as good, the more knowledge
I get, the more money I can have. Just in case to make sure we still have money
to get servant to take care of our home, and get the doctor keep his treatment
to save my sister Caroline’s life. I flipped
the pages once again back to left side, then reread my geographic information collection.
This time, a piece of brown paper fell out of the note book. I’ve got it in my
hand just in time, but at the same time threw myself into the soft grass. I took the
paper and looked at it, lying on the ground, I saw another previous piece of
information.
I remember this brown paper, it was the precious
information that I recorded 4 months ago, when I was leaving my home and start
to search for some pricey information for my boss. 4 months later, I should
have enough to get my salary. putting the plicated brown paper and note book carefully into a pocket of my skirt,
I stood up and walked along the narrow meandering foot path. Two months passed by quickly. Right now, I’m
standing in front of my house, seeing a light shining weakly through the
window. The heartbeat of mine became suddenly so fast, which has also became a
proof that I was so excited to see Carolina again. I pushed the door too soon
that my foot didn’t have a chance to step normally on the stone stairs, so when
I opened the door of my house, I fell on the floor without saying anything but
a screech. But I was too happy to say anything, I half struggled to stand up,
then I saw my sister Caroline coming to help me. “sister, you finally arrived!”Caroline said it in a
loud, fair-sounding voice. She threw herself onto me, shouting happily. I smiled
and hugged her. The sickness had gone, finally. The weak light of candle has gone, I got on the bed
after a warm shower. Caroline’s fine, I found a good job to keep this home
safe. I looked up in the sky through the window, stars shining in the sky that’s
been dyed into a purplish-black color. Looking at the shining stars sleeping in
the sky, I suddenly feel everything will be alright from now on. Since I was so
tired, my eyes closed without me noticing, and fell asleep in the quiet night.
