China’s Twenty-Four Solar Terms are a knowledge system of time management and practices developed based on ancient people’s observations of the sun’s annual motion. It became the 31st Chinese item inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage on Nov 30.

二十四節(jié)氣是古代中國(guó)人通過(guò)觀察太陽(yáng)在一年中的運(yùn)動(dòng)而形成的、關(guān)于時(shí)間管理及其實(shí)踐活動(dòng)的知識(shí)體系（好喘！）。在11月30號(hào)，它成為第31個(gè)被聯(lián)合國(guó)教科文組織列入世界非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)名錄的中國(guó)項(xiàng)目。

Solar Terms have been the subject of paintings, poems, fairy tales and folk songs, among other forms of art and literature. 

二十四節(jié)氣一直都是繪畫(huà)、詩(shī)歌、民間故事等文學(xué)藝術(shù)形式闡釋的主題。

A year ago, Beijing-based artist Dong Lin began a project to “carve out and fire” Solar Terms. The 25-year-old adopted “zhan jing pan”, a form of creating potted landscape started in Han Dynasty; she molded ceramic mountains, trees and animals, and arranged them in a big pottery pot or plate to present a landscape corresponding to a specific natural phenomenon of Solar Terms.

一年前，北京藝術(shù)家董琳開(kāi)始了一個(gè)系列作品——把二十四節(jié)氣“燒制”出來(lái)。這個(gè)25歲的姑娘借鑒了占景盤(pán)，一種始于漢代的插花、盆景擺放形式。她用手捏并燒出陶質(zhì)的山，樹(shù)木和動(dòng)物，再把它們擺放在一個(gè)大的陶瓷盤(pán)中，從而呈現(xiàn)出各個(gè)節(jié)氣所對(duì)應(yīng)的自然景象。

She completed the first six works of Solar Terms series: Insects Awakening, Grain Rain, End of Heat, Autumnal Equinox, Cold Dew and Light Snow. They are now shown at Soka Art Center, Beijing, being the latest project of the gallery’s Soka Lab, an experimental initiate to promote young artists. 

董琳已經(jīng)完成了節(jié)氣系列的首批六件作品，分別是驚蟄，谷雨，處暑，秋分，寒露和小雪，現(xiàn)在正作為索卡實(shí)驗(yàn)室·第三期的一部分，在索卡藝術(shù)北京空間展出。索卡實(shí)驗(yàn)室旨在呈現(xiàn)年輕藝術(shù)家的實(shí)驗(yàn)性創(chuàng)作。

Dong rented a workbench at a ceramic-production factory in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province to create these works. She applied glossy glaze of different colors to indicate changing landscapes of each season. 

董琳在江西景德鎮(zhèn)的一家窯廠租借了一個(gè)工作臺(tái)來(lái)進(jìn)行創(chuàng)作。她給每件作品涂上不同的釉色、以此指代隨著季節(jié)轉(zhuǎn)換而變化的景色。

Red tones suggest the heat of summer, yellow indicates the harvest of autumn, and sliver symbolizes the arrival of winter.

紅色代表夏日的火熱，黃色是迎來(lái)收獲季的秋天，而銀色象征寒冬的降臨。

Dong graduated from the sculpture department of Central Academy of Fine Arts last year. She is now pursuing a master’s degree at the same department. 

董琳去年畢業(yè)于中央美術(shù)學(xué)院雕塑系。她目前是雕塑系的在讀研究生。

She learned Chinese classical painting at 7 and since then, she has been practicing ink art and calligraphy. Therefore, her creation revolve around Chinese cultural traditions.

7歲的時(shí)候，董琳開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)國(guó)畫(huà)，一直到現(xiàn)在，她有時(shí)間就研習(xí)筆墨和書(shū)法。因此她的創(chuàng)作始終扎根中國(guó)文化傳統(tǒng)。

Also on show at Soka are her other ceramic works inspired by stories from Chu Ci, The Twenty-four Filial Exemplars and fairy tales. 

在索卡她還展出了其他的陶瓷作品，靈感來(lái)自于楚辭和二十四孝中的情節(jié)，以及民間傳說(shuō)。

Her interpretations of the traditional culture are quite narrative, bringing the audience an novel visual experience.

她對(duì)于文化傳統(tǒng)元素充滿(mǎn)敘事性的演繹，給觀者帶來(lái)新奇的視覺(jué)體驗(yàn)。
