不指明任何特定名詞的代詞叫不定代詞,就其形式結構來看,不定代詞主要分為兩大類,一類是some, any, both, all, another, other, each, either, neither, none, one, a few, few, a little, little, many, much等,另一類是由every/some/any/no +one/body/thing構成的復合代詞.

不定代詞在句中可以做主語,賓語,表語,定語,同位語等.

1. 不定代詞之some, any

some一般用在肯定句中, any一般用在疑問句,否定句中,但當問著提問時想得到對方的肯定回答時,用some,如:

Would you like a cup of tea? Yes, please.

要來杯茶嗎? 好的,謝謝.

2. 不定代詞之many, much

many后面加可數名詞復數, much后面加不可數名詞.

much可以修飾形容詞,副詞比較級.

3. 不定代詞之few, a few, little, a little

(1) few , a few用于可數名詞前,而 little, a little用于不可數名詞前.

(2) a few, a little表示肯定意義,意思為有幾個,有一些,而few, little表示否定意義,意思為幾乎沒有.

There is a little water in the glass.

There is little water in the glass.

She has a few friends.

She has few friends.

4. 不定代詞之other系列

other系列的不定代詞有:

one…the other… 一個….另一個….(兩者中)

one…another… 一個….另一個….(不定數量中)

one… the others… 一個….其余的…..

some…others… 一部分….另一部分…..

some…some…the others… 一部分….另一部分…..剩余的全部…..

5. 不定代詞之both, either, neither系列

(1) both:兩者都

all:三者或三者以上都

(2) neither:兩者都不

none：三者及三者以上都不，可用于人，也可用于物，后可接of短語

(3) each:兩者或兩者以上中的每一個，each可以和of連用，強調個體

every:三者或三者以上中的每一個，every不能和of連用，強調整體

(4) either:兩者中的任何一個

any:三者或三者以上中的任何一個

6. 復合不定代詞

復合不定代詞是由every/some/any/no +one/body/thing構成,具體形式有someone, somebody, something, anyone, anybody, anything, no one, nobody, nothing, everyone, everybody, everything.注意上述這些不定代詞做主語時,謂語動詞用單數,如:

Someone is knocking at the door.

有人在敲門.
