與卡納萊托(canaletto)同時馳名于威尼斯畫壇上的場景畫家是弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪(francesco guardi)。這兩位畫家雖然同樣傾心于場景畫的創(chuàng)作并取得了一定成就,但二者之間卻存在著比較明顯的區(qū)別。

卡納萊托的作品往往注重于城市建筑或街道的比例、透視的正確性,而弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪的作品卻充滿著豐富的感情色彩,他喜歡憑借自己的感受去作畫,至于建筑物的透視或比例的正確與否對于他來講是無關緊要的。

同時,弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪不但作都市的場景畫,而且對威尼斯當時的各類事件和宗教儀式、宴會等其他室內(nèi)活動也頗感興趣并收入畫中,題材相對卡納萊托要廣泛得多。

弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪的場景畫創(chuàng)作充滿激情而不拘泥于現(xiàn)實的摹寫,他常常根據(jù)自己的需要而把一些威尼斯著名的建筑物收進畫中。弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪不滿足于人們所見的色彩或自然產(chǎn)生的光線,而根據(jù)畫面情況作出獨自的處理。弗朗西斯科·瓜爾迪是表現(xiàn)了一種藝術(shù)的真實,從這點來看,他與卡納萊托的場景畫趣味迥然。
