Once, Einstein gave a lecture in a university, where the large classroom was full of teachers and students who respected him. After his speech, the audience on the scene started to ask questions.

有一次，愛因斯坦在一所大學(xué)里演講，大教室里坐滿了崇拜他的老師和學(xué)生。演講結(jié)束，在場聽眾開始提問。

A girl got up and asked, “You are known as a giant of science. Do you think you are a giant?” Einstein said with a smile, “A giant isn't a person who is tall in height. You see I am so small, how can I have the image of a giant? Maybe I see a bit farther, only because I stand higher.”

一個女孩站起來問：“大家都叫您科學(xué)巨人。您覺得自己是巨人嗎？” 愛因斯坦笑著說：“巨人指的不是個頭高的人。你看，我是個小個子，形象上怎么可能是巨人呢？可能我就是看得遠(yuǎn)一點(diǎn)兒，那是因為我站得高一些。”

Then a boy asked, “You mentioned you stand higher than others. It reminds me that you had a long talk with a lady on the peak of Alps（阿爾卑斯山脈）. I don't want to ask what you talked, but I want to know whether you realized you have been a peak in the history of science when you stood on the peak.”

又有一個男孩發(fā)問：“您說到您比別人站得高。這讓我想起了您曾經(jīng)和一位女士在阿爾卑斯山的最高峰上展開過一番長談。我不是想問您當(dāng)時都說了些什么，我只想知道您是否意識到當(dāng)您站在頂峰的時候，您自己就是科學(xué)史的一座高峰了呢？”

Looking at the boy carefully, Einstein asked, “Do you think I am like a peak? Anyhow, my height cannot become a peak. And what's more, there is no peak that no one can conquer, so we don't want to be a peak, but we want to be a person to climb the summit.”

愛因斯坦仔細(xì)地端詳了一下男孩，問道：“你覺得我像高峰嗎？無論如何，我的身高當(dāng)不了高峰。而且啊，沒有征服不了的高峰，所以我們不是想要成為高峰，而是要成為問鼎山巔的那個人?！?/p>

Then, he took up a piece of chalk and wrote on the blackboard, “Standing on the peak, you are not tall, but even smaller!”

He then turned to the audience and said, “Although I stand tall, in the eyes of the world I am still small! Finally, I can tell you the sentence, which was the last one I told the lady on the peak of the Alps:

‘Any peak can be conquered, for there is no giant in the world but the one who stands higher!’” A storm of applause（掌聲） sounded. The lady who listened to Einstein's conversation on the Alps that year was no other than Madam Curie!
