![]() Lin YuTang (1895–1976), born in Longxi, Fujian (now Pinghe County, Zhangzhou), was a renowned Chinese writer, scholar, translator, and linguist. He studied abroad in the US and Germany, earning a master's degree from Harvard and a doctorate in linguistics from Leipzig. He taught at prestigious universities in China such as Tsinghua and Peking. He created the term 'youmo' (humor) in Chinese and was known as the 'Master of Humor.' His works include My Country and My People, The Importance of Living, and the novel Moment in Peking.
