幾個人約好一起去看電影，或去逛街，或去爬山，其中一個人卻失約，你很氣憤地說：“太過分了，居然放我鴿子！”那么，“爽約，放鴿子”英語怎么說呢？可以用stand up來表示。【上期回顧：To bark up the wrong tree你打錯算盤了?！?/a>

大家可能都會說stand up. 這不就是“站起來”的意思嗎？是的，一點也沒錯。但是，to stand up后面再加一個"某人"，那它的意思就完全不同了。To stand up someone就是一個人沒有能按時去赴重要的約會，特別是和女朋友或男朋友的約會。例如：
Why did you stand her up last night, then?
那么，昨天晚上你為什么失約?

I didn't stand her up on purpose.
我不是故意失約。

電影情景再現(xiàn)：

在《欲望都市》中，Miranda打電話給性愛專家Carrie，傾訴約會對象遲到了三個鐘頭，自己被放了鴿子。Carrie表示不相信男人會放女人鴿子。

音頻：

-Miranda:My date is three hours late. I'm being stood up, right?
我的約會對象遲到了三個鐘頭，我被放鴿子了，對吧？

-Carrie:Maybe he got lost.
也許他迷路了。

-Miranda:Carrie.
凱莉。

-Carrie:Doesn't look good.
情況不妙。

-Miranda:And I'm wearing a new dress. And I'm eating out of plastic.
我穿著一件新衣服，而且正在吃微波食品。

-Carrie:I'm sorry.
我很遺憾。

-Miranda:The least he could do is get to know me before he rejects me.
最起碼他應該先認識我，再拒絕我。

-Carrie:Yeah, that's illegal dumping.
對，這樣拋棄別人是違法的。

-Miranda:It's crazy. This hasn't happened to me since I'm 27. I should know better. I thought I'd got smarter about picking them now.
真是瘋狂，這種事從我27歲后就沒發(fā)生過。我成熟了，不該這么笨。我以為現(xiàn)在我比較不會看走眼。

-Carrie:I can't believe guys still stand girls up.
我不敢相信男人還會放女人鴿子。
